They see the development of a story line towards a reliable goal. Often, this goal is usually the way a character may be developed in order to reach the climax of the story. For instance, in a war game, the 'story' is usually good winning over evil. For those who assume the role of the 'good hearted Samaritan', the manner in which the character destroys evil could be thought of as the progression of that particular character. The entire sequence of events that leads to the 'death' of the evil could be thought of as the story. Being the primary goal behind playing a mmorpg, the development of a character is of utmost importance for any game publisher. The numerous MMORPGs describe a character progression scheme in which players are able to earn experience points for the 'correct' actions and then use these points to reach the next character "levels". Levels usually symbolize the difficulty level of the game. A higher level usually means that the player is better at doing what he is doing. Conventionally, players combat with monsters and complete missions for the non players character in the game. This is done either alone or in groups, and is the main way of earning the experience points. The accrual of wealth that includes the combat-useful items is the way a player progresses in terms of titles, and this feature is best accomplished by means of a combat. The series of actions produced by these conditions, lead to new items permitting more combat with no change in the method of playing and is sometimes depreciatively referred to as the level treadmill or grinding. |
